These Family Tree related DVDs are interesting and informative, and they makre great gifts. Also, here are any gadgets I recommend as being particularly useful for anyone attempting to research their own family tree.

A Digital Voice Recorder is a modern version of a Dictaphone. I find it useful, with permission of course, to record spoken facts and anecdotes when I am conductung research. I especially recommend recording the family history recollections of older relatives, to preserve for future generations. This Olympus has a great facility to connect to a computer via USB, so you can archive your recordings. For the technically minded, it can save recordings in WMA format, which means you can make your recordings play from CDs or an MP3 player if you wish.

This is a useful tool to keep handy when poring over old records. Historical records are often hard to read, so a magnifier can be a great relief. I often spot and correct mis-transcribed records on online resources thanks to my little magnifier.
